Yes, Cris Collinsworth, it has been too long.
The NBC NFL analyst unknowingly trolled Jets and Giants fans when he quote-tweeted a Jets draft guide from Pro Football Focus and wrote that it has been too long since he has been to New York for a game and hopes NBC can flex a game this year, since neither team is scheduled to be at home on the network next season.
It has been a while since the Jets or Giants hosted a “Sunday Night Football” game, a sign of just how bad the two teams have been in recent years. The Jets last played at MetLife Stadium in primetime on Sunday night on Nov. 13, 2011, when the Patriots crushed them, 37-16. The Giants have hosted a Sunday night game more recently, beating the Cowboys, 10-7, on Dec. 11, 2016.
The two do have a combined five primetime games this year – the Giants have three and the Jets two – but a flex into Sunday night seems unlikely. Neither team is considered a playoff contender this year and each have difficult schedules. Perhaps the opponent could do the trick and get Collinsworth into the area.
Otherwise, the Sunday night drought will likely continue for another year.
